On December 20th, the two 4th grade students from the Faculty of Medicine, the Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia, had an evaluation of medical elective program by oral presentation at University of Fukui. The two students received the certificate of completion at the completion ceremony also.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences has signed an academic exchange agreement with the Airlangga University since 2016 to promote student exchange. Based on this agreement, the University of Fukui held the short-term medical training from November 25th this year. The two students observed the 5th year clinical training in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department in the first 2 weeks and learned basic medicine in the latter 2 weeks.
At the evaluation of elective program by oral presentation , the two students have explained about their training. They have observed various things during clinical training in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and learned basic laboratory experiments including real-time PCR in the Department of Genome Science and Microbiology. They added some stories of the professors and students who warmly welcomed and took care of them during their stay at the University of Fukui.
At the completion ceremony, the two students talked with Prof. NAIKI Hironobu, Dean of the School of Medical Sciences. The Dean NAIKI asked them “What kind of experience did you have during your stay in Fukui?” and “What kind of doctor you would like to be in the future?” The student answered, “I observed the clinical surgery for the first time in my life and I felt so magical. I want to be a physician of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the future.”
Finally, the Dean NAIKI handed over the Certificate of Completion and completed the 24-day medical training program.
In January 2020, we will send one short-term medical training student of the University of Fukui to the Airlangga University and we would like to continue this exchange program actively.
