University of Fukui awarded Dr. Benjamin Tsang of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, Canada, with an Honorary Doctoral Degree at the convocation ceremony on March 23rd in recognition of 中国足球彩票 than 20 years of collaborative research between the two Universities. Dr. Tsang is the very first non-Japanese awardee of the Honorary Doctoral Degree from the University of Fukui.
Dr. Tsang is the Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa and Senior Scientist Emeritus at The Ottawa Hospital. He is an internationally renowned researcher in ovarian biology, working on health issues such as female infertility and ovarian cancer. Dr. Tsang has made a significant contribution to the establishment of the academic exchange agreement between the University of Ottawa and University of Fukui, and the subsequent development of exchanges over the years.
Thanks to Dr. Tsang’s dedication, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa and the Faculty of Medical Sciences of University of Fukui concluded the new academic exchange agreement in November 11th, 2020, based on the original agreement concluded in March 2000. Through international joint research between Dr. Tsang and his colleagues in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the University of Ottawa, and Professor YOSHIDA Yoshio and his colleagues in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of University of Fukui, the two universities have been taking a leadership role in the field of obstetrics and gynecology between Canada and Japan. In his speech at the convocation ceremony on March 23rd, Dr. Tsang expressed his gratitude to the President UEDA Takanori and told the graduates, “Be grateful to and give back to the University of Fukui and the Fukui community. Think outside of the box as you plan your future. Never be afraid to seek advice from your past and current mentors.”
On March 24th, Dr. Tsang made a courtesy visit to the President UEDA and had a lively discussion with related professors about future joint research including medical-engineering collaboration. In the afternoon of the same day, Dr. Tsang participated in a seminar hosted by the Organization for Life Science Advanced Programs of the University of Fukui. Dr. Tsang gave a lecture on the history of joint research and international exchange between the two universities to about 35 participants, including graduate students and faculty members from the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the University of Fukui, and general attendees from outside the university.
Professor YOSHIDA said, “Next year, we are planning to resume international exchange, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic situation, and researchers from both universities will come and go to conduct joint research. We would like to further deepen exchanges between the two universities.”
