Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary YOSHIDA Akiko, Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Slovenia, paid a courtesy visit

On March 25, Ms. YOSHIDA Akiko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Slovenia, visited the University of Fukui and met with President UEDA Takanori, Vice President for International Affairs NAGAI Niro, Dean of the School of Engineering AKASHI Yukio, and Professor TAKAHASHI Yasutake of the School of Engineering.

Since the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Fukui City has been promoting exchanges with the Republic of Slovenia, and University of Fukui is also aiming for university-wide exchanges and cooperation with universities in Slovenia. Ambassador YOSHIDA’s visit to Fukui was part of this effort.

First of all, President UEDA introduced the current status and its initiatives, followed by a Vice President NAGAI¡¯s presentation on the history of exchange with the Republic of Slovenia to date. ?Ambassador YOSHIDA commented that although Slovenia has a small population, the level of research is very high, and that future development can be expected from the fact that Japanese companies with high value-added technologies in robotics and semiconductors have established operations in the country. Professor TAKAHASHI also introduced the joint research on agricultural robots conducted at the University of Ljubljana by his colleague, Senior Assistant Professor, TSUICHIHARA Satoki, since March of this year with the support of NESTY Corp. Dean AKASHI mentioned that the former Ambassador MATSUSHIMA Hiromichi’s encouragement had led to the development of exchange with the University of Ljubljana, and expressed his hope for continued support, confirming the continuation of the cooperative relationship. They also had an enthusiastic exchange of views on the possibility of cooperation in the field of energy.

Taking this opportunity of Ambassador YOSHIDA’s visit, we will promote further exchanges and cooperation activities with the Republic of Slovenia.
